Conscious Sedation Dentistry – This is administered by taking a pill an hour before a dental appointment. A very light sedation, all body functions remain normal and the patient is able to breathe on his/her own. A pulse oximeter is utilized to measure oxygen levels and heart rate to ensure safety. Some degree of amnesia is common and preferred since most would rather not remember their dental visit. Dr. Tran usually recommends conscious sedation for those procedures that heighten anxiety. The medication maintains the patient in a relaxed state, making the experience more comfortable for both patient and doctor. If conscious sedation is chosen by a patient, a designated driver must be available to drive the patient to and from the appointment.
